Starting in mid-summer and blooming well into fall, this unusual, 15″-tall sedge generates striking, green-tipped, white bracts surrounding bitty flowers. The bract-flower combination looks like bright stars sailing over the tops of tall rushes. The flowers attract insect pollinators, which is unusual for plants in this primarily wind-pollinated family.
Native to the SE United States and into Texas, this sedge flourishes in moist, loamy soils. If you have a moist or boggy area such as a water feature edge, then this beauty will spread by rhizomes to form a dense colony.
