Monrovia Yellow Anise is a large dense upright native evergreenshrubwith aromatic foliage that emerges soft yellow green and matures to olive green.The late spring flowers yellow-green are insignificant but are followed by the non-edible star-shaped seed capsules that have a licorice scent- DO NOT INGEST! The plant is not a substitute for the culinary spice and flavorings obtained from Illicium verum. Grows best in rich, moist well-drained soils. Drought tolerant once established.
