Hydrangea Mixed – I am currently10-15cm tall but with an excellent root system.
Hydrangeas are instantly recognisable with their large puffy flowers heads. Chances are youve grown up with these plants somewhere along the line or mum’s popped a few in the vase upon the family dining table.
They are hardy, deciduous shrubs with large, spectacular flower heads in summer. They make excellent cut flowers and really fill up a gap in the flower border.
Now heres the interesting bit. The flower heads change colour depending on the pH of your soil.
Acidic soil with a pH lower than 6.0 will give you blue or lavender-blue flowers
Alkaline soil with a pH of 7.0 or above brings on the pink and red
If you have soil between 6 and 7 youll get purple to bluish-pink
White (alba) hydrangeas dont change with the soil acidity but remain white
If youre desperate for a blue hydrangea but you have chalky alkaline soil, pop her in a container with acid-based ericaceous potting mix.
Hydrangea likes sun to part shade and protection from the wind because those flower-heads are heavy and catch in a strong breeze.

I grow to:Ill reach 1.5 – 2 metres in good conditions.
Where to place me:I like the sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon. If youre not sure where that gives me part shade all day such as under a tree.
How far to space me: I need a fair amount of space – a metre at least.
Soil Conditions:I like rich moist soils. Use fertiliser and mulch if yours is thin.
