The Wildlife Hatchet is a camping hatchet that uses the same forged head as the Hand Hatchet on a longer handle, about 13.8 inches, which is the difference between a tool for splitting kindling and one that can take down small trees at camp. The added reach puts more power behind each swing, and at 1.3 lbs, it still packs and carries easily.
What the Longer Handle Does
The extra length moves the balance toward the end of the swing, generating more power per stroke without adding weight. Hold it up near the head for limbing and kindling, lower down for heavier felling. The grain of the hickory runs straight through the head, the same construction method Grnsfors has used since the forge abandoned epoxy adhesives in the late 1980s in favor of a traditional fit.
