This is a unique deciduous plant with arching red stems bearing wide, lance-shaped leaves that turn from mid-green to red in fall. Inconspicuous green flowers are followed by clusters of round, fleshy, translucent yellow fruit. Though they look juicy, most of the plant is poisonous so find something less risky to eat and just enjoy this plant’s visual drama. Collected from the mountains of Eastern Nepal.
