Similar in appearance to Astilbe, Aruncus ‘Chantilly Lace’ produces creamy blooms in such profusion that it almost hides the dark lacy foliage in early summer. However, unlike Astilbe, Aruncus can tolerate some drought.
Commonly known as simply “goatsbeard,” ‘Chantilly Lace’ is a hybrid Aruncus that exhibits excellent performance in the garden. It prefers part-shade but can tolerate full shade. It must have afternoon shade in warm southern climates.
Aruncus ‘Chantilly Lace’ may be slow-growing the first few years as it establishes its root system, but it is well worth the wait. This perennial is magnificent in cottage gardens and shaded borders. It is deer-resistant.
